The Journey Continues (2021) by Djabe and Steve Hackett is a stunning, high-definition live document capturing their vibrant collaboration across a sprawling, multi-genre landscape of progressive rock, world fusion, and classic Genesis lore. Engineered with pristine spatial clarity and dynamic breadth by Djabe bassist Tamás Barabás, the recording offers a wide-open concert soundstage where every instrument breathes with lifelike air and razor-sharp separation.
Steve Hackett’s unmistakable guitar tone serves as a melodic beacon throughout the performance. His signature Les Paul sustain—rich in upper-mid warmth, singing feedback, and delicate volume swells—slices through the center channel, while his classical nylon-string passages showcase incredible micro-dynamic texture, capturing the click of fingernails and subtle fingerboard shifts. Attila Égerházi’s electric and acoustic guitar work provides a lush, wide-panned stereo counterpoint, weaving Latin-flavored rhythm chops and ambient textures that ground the harmonic space.
The album’s upper-mid frequencies glow with rich instrumental variety. As with all Djabe productions, Tamás Barabás’s bass tone is an audiophile highlight: ultra-articulate, deep, and elastic, his nimble fingerstyle runs and punchy low-end presence anchor the low frequencies with subterranean authority without ever swamping the mix. Péter Kaszás’s drumming powers the ensemble with crisp, high-transient speed—highlighted by a snappy wood-shell snare crack, deep tom resonance, and sparkling cymbal decay that radiates naturally across the hall.
