Recorded live at the Hamburg Jazz Festival, the album takes the familiar motifs of classic rock’s most celebrated record and expands them into a vast, cinematic orchestral tapestry arranged by Michael Gibbs.
The sonic landscape is driven by the dynamic contrast between the massive, lush brass dynamics of the German NDR Bigband and Nguyên Lê’s searing, electric guitar work. Lê brings his signature microtonal pitch bends, eastern-inflected scalar runs, and soaring, distorted rock tones, grounding the progressive rock heart of the original while pushing it into new, uncharted territories. Floating above and within this complex brass architecture is Italian vocalist Maria Pia De Vito, whose performance is a tour de force—alternating between soulful Italian-accented english delivery, intricate vocal scats, and wordless, avant-garde vocal improvisations that echo Clare Torry's iconic performance on "The Great Gig in the Sky."
Interspersed with analog synth textures, complex time-signature shifts, and sprawling jazz solos, the album’s production captures the immense acoustic scale of a full big band alongside the sharp, punchy detail of a modern rock ensemble. The result is a vivid, colorful soundscape that pays deep homage to Pink Floyd's atmospheric brilliance while completely redefining its sonic geometry.
