Made Up Mind (2013) by Tedeschi Trucks Band takes the organic soul-blues foundation of their debut and injects it with a punchier, heavier, and more immediate rock 'n' roll swagger. Recorded at Swamp Raga Studios with producer Jim Scott, the sound is noticeably punchier in the low end and tight in the mid-range. Susan Tedeschi’s vocals carry an added grit and raw power—most evident on the stomping title track—backed by her own biting lead-guitar riffs. Derek Trucks’s SG slide guitar feels more aggressive and front-and-center, slicing through dense arrangements with fiery, blues-rock distortion while retaining his signature vocal-like sustain. The 11-piece ensemble operates with laser focus: the dual-drum attack hits with tight, chest-thumping precision, while Kofi Burbridge’s Hammond B3, clavinet, and flute interlock seamlessly with crisp, brassy horn stabs. Balancing heavy, funky Southern stompers like "Misunderstood" with lush, soul-stirring ballads like "Part of Me," the production delivers a vibrant, high-energy, and muscular audiophile mix.
