Signs (2019) by Tedeschi Trucks Band is a darker, raw, and deeply impassioned record born out of a period of immense personal loss, featuring some of the band's last recordings with founding keyboardist/flutist Kofi Burbridge. Recorded directly to 2-inch analog tape at Swamp Raga Studios using vintage consoles and tape equipment, the album exhibits a distinct analog weight and visceral room texture. Susan Tedeschi’s lead vocals carry a poignant, emotional urgency, matched by Derek Trucks’s slide guitar work, which ranges from jagged, biting blues-rock riffs on "Shame" to soaring, elegiac leads on "I'm Gonna Be There." The ensemble expands its sonic palette with lush, real string arrangements recorded at Capitol Studios, blending naturally with Burbridge’s expressive Hammond B3 organ and flute lines. With Tim Lefebvre and Falcon Greenberry anchoring a heavy, driving low end, the production feels immediate, gritty, and unvarnished, striking a powerful balance between orchestral soul grandeur and earthy, uncompressed roots-rock.
